Saving and Publishing in WordPress

Once you’ve added content to your post/page you have the option of saving as a draft or publishing.

Save Draft WordPress Post

Clicking the Save Draft button will simply save your post/page. This is handy if you would like to come back at a later date to add more content or if you’re simply not ready to publish yet.

Clicking the Preview button will show you a preview of the current post/page, so you can check it out as others will see it before you Publish.

Clicking the Publish button will save your post/page and publish it ‘live’ on your website for everyone to see.

Before Post/Page is Published.

You can Save Draft as above or if you click Edit to the right of Status: Draft you have the option to change the status to Pending Review.

Draft Post Edit OptionsIf you have a collaborator on your site, you might use Pending Review to flag it for their review prior to publishing. Once you’ve selected this option, click OK and the Save Draft button will change to Save as Pending.

Click Save as Pending.

 

 

Once Post/Page has been Published

Update Post in WordPress

Clicking the Preview Changes button will show you a preview of the current post/page, so you can check it out as others will see it before you Update any changes you have made.

Clicking the Update button will save changes made to the post/page and update those amendments ‘live’ on your website for everyone to see.

Note: once the Published button has been used, if you return to edit the post/page the published button will have changed to Update.

If you click Edit to the right of Status: Published you have the option to change the status to Pending Review or back to Draft.

Selecting Draft is handy if you would like to come back at a later date to add more content and want to withdraw the post/page from view. Once you’ve selected this option click OK, then Update. The Update button will change to Publish. The post/page will no longer be visible to site visitors.

If you have a collaborator on your site, you might use Pending Review to flag it for their review. Once you’ve selected this option click OK, then Update. The Update button will change to Publish. The post/page will no longer be visible to site visitors.
