When an application freezes on your computer, use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Alt+Delete (although this may bring up a menu where you have to select Start Task Manager so to reduce the number of steps needed to open the Task Manager directly try Ctrl + Shift + Esc).
A Windows Task Manager window will open up. Select the Applications tab.
If the status of a particular program is labeled as ‘Not Running’, then the program has become frozen for some reason. Click on the application’s name you are having trouble with to select it and at the bottom of the Task Manager window click the End Task button. Sometimes you may then get a message stating that the program is not responding, click on the End now button.
