In the back end admin area, the Screen Options tab appears in the top right of every screen where it can be used. It’s next to Help. It can be used to change your own personal working area to suit yourself and display, hide from view and customise sections.
When clicked, the Screen Options menu opens up to reveal various alternatives. The options available are dependent on the particular page you are in, plugins installed and themes used.
As an example, you can hide (uncheck the boxes) the Excerpt meta box or Custom Fields from the ‘Edit Post’ screen if not used very often. You won’t see NextScripts: Social Networks Auto Poster – Post Options unless you have that particular plugin installed.
On screens where you can show/hide columns, you can also change the number of items shown per page. Here is an example of the Screen Options available when in ‘Categories’:
Once changes have been made, click Screen Options again and the pull down area will disappear from view.
